I have been looking forward to this one all month. I am grateful for JD.

He is long-suffering, patient, and passionate. He is a guardian of truth, a thinker and philosopher. He truly loves and seeks to protect the English language. When he does something he seeks for perfection. He believes in the golden rule and really lives it. He is an involved, loving and fun dad. He is quirky and obsessive compulsive. He is brilliant. But what truly won me over is he is funny.

JD is my best friend. Macy and I are very lucky to have him in our lives.

Happy Belated Fathers' Day

Macy and I are two of the luckiest girls around.  We both have Dads who are everything a Dad should be.  I love you Dad and I love you JD.  Thank you both for being such strong forces for good in our lives.

What the heck is Modern American Usage, you ask? It's essentially just a book about grammar. He is reading it cover to cover for the SECOND time.

I am also reading this cover to cover for the second time and still chuckling to myself as I read. I have also interrupted JD on several occasions with, "You gotta hear this..."

Now I know this sounds boring, but did you know that you can clean the toilet with Tang? Tang! And did you know that, according to Bryan Garner (grammar expert extraordinaire), it is perfectly acceptable to start sentences with and or but? But please don't start them with however. (Yes, this does mean that we were all lied to by teachers from elementary school through college. Vouchers aren't looking so bad now, are they?)

What Will Your Mid-Life Crisis Look Like?

Since most of the Ashby clan has yet to see the evidence of JD's early mid-life crisis, I thought I would share. Now remember, this is a man who wears french cuff shirts and shoes with tassels.

And here he is on his scooter. He talks of rising gas prices and incredible gas mileage but, to steal an old line from Jonny, "it's pure pleasure". 

And I have to admit that it does make you feel young again. In a few years, you may find Andrea and me cruising around on a couple of these.

It doesn't, however, accommodate a car seat very well. I guess Macy will just have to find her own way home.
