Preschool Graduation

I feel so fortunate that Macy had such a positive experience with preschool.   She looked forward to class every time and was so happy to report all they did when she got home.  We love Macy's teacher, Miss Debbie (or as Macy pronounces it "Stebbie"), and I am so glad Macy gets to have her next year too.  Miss Debbie wrote three strengths for each child on flowers they colored.  She wrote smart, problem solver and happy for Macy.

The program was adorable.  She even taught the kids a little square dance.   It is so amazing to watch your kids grow up!

Here are some of our favorite projects from the year:
Also, for the first three weeks, Macy wanted me to take her picture before school.
Here are those pictures:

Macy's Musings

Macy and I were walking into our room and I told her to say good morning and wake up JD. She came up with her own way to wake him up. She marched into the room, squeezed her own nose and let out a loud honk. She now continues to do this anytime one of us pretends to be asleep.

Macy loves to stack toys, blocks, and puzzle pieces. She calls it "making a rhombus." (For any Curious George fans, this comes from the episode where George helps in the chocolate store.) And if there is any sort of tapering at the top, she deems it a temple.

She calls all heart-shaped items "loves" and it's so adorable that I don't think we'll ever correct her.

The other day she was really pushing on the top of her head and becoming very frustrated. JD asked her what was wrong she said, "it won't go inside like a turtle".

For dinner the other night, I got out the block of cheese and put it on the table before I grated it. Macy was thrilled and called out "muh cheese, muh favorite cheese" and then took several bites out it. She has the tiniest teeth, so it looks like a mouse got ahold of it.

Photos (and I mean A LOT of photos)

We took 173 photos for our Christmas card this year. We went to Murray park and let her loose. And she ran . . .

And played with the geese .
And we caught the expressions I try to burn into my memory every day. The faces we don't normally capture in pictures. The looks that make up the day.

And I am reminded just how priceless pictures can be.

Meeting Mr. Claus

2007

Macy's 2008 meeting with Mr. Claus started out just like 2007 . . .

. . . but ended with a scream.

Not for the Faint of Heart

Do you think an unparalleled love for ketchup may have a genetic link? Jonny used to dine on ketchup sandwiches. Yep, a bun and a whole lotta ketchup. I believe Brookie also used to lick up the sauce and Rosie has been know to take a gulp or two.

But Macy seems to have taken it to a new level of disgustingness. She loves the "num, num" as she affectionately calls it. She goes to the fridge, gets out the ketchup, goes to the drawer and gets out a dinner plate. She then gets up on the chair at the table, pours herself a little dab and then dips whatever food she can find.

Here she is with a nice fruit snack aand ketchup snack:

I am grateful for the quirks in all of us. It is the spice of life, no matter how distasteful.

The Buzz: Halloween 2008

We loved Halloween 2008. We went to a great party last week at Greg and Andrea's house (Greg and Jenn have great photos of it on their blogs). We also had a quick trip to the Barnyard Boo at Thanksgiving Point.

Macy made an adorable little bee. Unfortunately, I did not get THE photo of her in her costume. (If you are crazy like me, you know what I am talking about.) But collectively I think these shots are pretty darn cute.

Since I Can't Freeze Time . . .

Last night as we put Macy to bed, we each gave her a kiss on the cheek and she returned the favor. This is a nightly ritual, but last night Macy's return kiss was an actual tight-lipped pucker. This is the first time her kiss was not a wide open, wet and slippery smacker. Luckily it was still accompanied by the enthusiastic "MMM-WUH!"

Of course, I love everything she learns and any progress she makes, but it did make me think of all the things she does right now that I don't want to forget.

So, Macy, here are some of the things you do that always make us smile:

1. When I hold or hug you, you pat me on the shoulder. You do the same for Dad.
2. Every time (and I mean every time) you see one of the cats throughout the day, you have to say and sign "cat" over and over.
3. When we hug you or you hug your dolls or animals, you say "nice, nice" in your sweetest tone.
4. From the time you were about 11 months old until you were 17 months or so, you had a little Beavis-and-Butthead-style laugh. That has now developed into a great fake laugh, complete with a full backward head toss. And your genuine laugh is musical.

5. You use your new phony laugh very liberally while talking on your toy cell phone (usually to Cousin Brady, whom you call "D").
6. You LOVE to jump and you'll sign and say "jump" as you hop again and again. You used to do this with a full-body upward heave but with the soles of your feet glued to the floor. Now you get enough air to clear two stacked dimes. See how you're already evolving?
7. Every time we get out of the car, you have to repeat "bye car, bye car" over and over.
8. You love to hold up your index finger, say "one, two, three, GO!," and then run as fast as you can. You have the bounciest run.

9. You LOVE the Bee Movie and you ask for it constantly by saying "sting, sting, sting" while poking your belly.
10. Whenever you hear certain songs (like the themes to Arrested Development, The Office, or Backyardigans), you drop whatever you're doing, smile big for a second, then dance like a maniac. When the song's over, you'll say "again, again" (or, more accurately, "geh, geh") then start the whole process over. If we're not quick enough, you go for the remote yourself.
11. When Dad gets home from work, you'll often grab everyone's fingers and pull us into the family room for a few rounds of "Ring Around the Rosies." You always stay upright until we've both collapsed and reminded you that you're supposed to fall too.
12. Whenever you drop something (usually on purpose), you put both hands on your head and say "oh no!"
13. You call yourself "C."
14. For this short time, we are still your favorite people and your eyes light up when you see us. We'll be so sad when this changes.

15. You are our favorite person, but we don't see that ever changing.

The Pig Cat

Today, Macy and I sat on the back porch and shared a "nack" (as Macy calls it) size Kit Kat. She really enjoyed it and gave a big loud "Mmmmmmmmmmm".

I told her it was called a Kit Kat. She then promptly signed:
"more"
"pig"
"cat."

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

I was weeding through my pictures and almost deleted this one. But I think this picture says it all about Macy at this stage. She is on the go and getting into as much trouble as she can as fast as she can.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

Rites of Passage

Please indulge my crazy first-time momness.

On Sunday, Macy turned 18-months-old and with this milestone comes an important rite of passage for the Latter-day Saint Toddler: Nursery! The first tiny step from the nest.

We made our way into the room and found the perfect toy ... which was promptly taken away by an older child. We quickly found another and a crisis was averted. As I turned to leave, her eyes welled with tears. Oh wait! Those were my eyes. She was just fine.

I went to Sunday School and sat with my ears perked up listening for her war cry, "My Mama". (She calls me Mama which I completely adore.) But luckily the call never came.

On my way to Relief Society, I was feeling practically naked. I stopped for a quick look in the peep hole. (They have an actual peep hole so you can check in on the kids without being spotted.) There were all the kids sitting down listening with Macy running in circles around them.

As Relief Society got underway, I found it was actually quite nice to listen to the lesson and when church was over I was not sweaty and exhausted. I went and picked up a very happy Macy and came to the conclusion that I am really going to like nursery. Oh, and I think Macy might too.

** Side note: I am fully aware that, because I wrote this post, next week will be a complete nightmare with wailing and gnashing of teeth.

** Another note: The picture really has nothing to do with the story unless you see it as her on Memorial day looking into a Crystal ball at the cemetary to see her near future in the nursery. I just think it's a cute picture.

5 Things

FIVE THINGS MACY LOVES:

1. Sitting in the Fridge. As soon as she sees the door open she comes running.

2. Feeding herself.

3. Hats.

4. Signing Time! (I also love this because it gives me 30 minutes to shower, get ready and whatever else I can fit in.) She knows about 40 signs but candy is her favorite.

5. Playing with Dad. Who else can make you laugh until you puke?
