Pittsburgh Trip: Day One and Our New Puppy

Macy's first item of business in Pittsburgh was getting a puppy.

It was love at first sight. There was no way she would leave without her new companion. And who are we to stand in the way of such love and devotion? She named her puppy Memo in honor of her favorite Jazz big man. I hope he fits in our suitcase.

Once Macy had claimed her dog, they had to try out each toddler bed at IKEA.

Pittsburgh Trip: The LONG Way There

Note to self: Never fly across the country with a two-year-old. That drive home is going to be long. Don't let the picture fool you!

This week for photography class, we met for an outdoor shoot.  We learned several funky light tricks.  It was so much fun.

A Letter

The Park

Right after I took this picture, she dive-bombed her shadow. It was hilarious!

The Zoo

Unfortunately, I took terrible pictures at the zoo. At least the people are cute!! (My teacher would be so ashamed.)

The Creepy Thing About Me . . .

I love old cemeteries. JD thinks it's creepy.

I think they are beautiful. So many unique markers, each one with a story to tell. I love to see what words were chosen to sum up a life.

Macy and I took a drive to Mt. Olivet cemetery (est. 1874) across from Rice-Eccles Stadium yesterday. We go to see all the deer you find grazing there.
I could haven taken dozens of pictures.

I love the lamb and the girl but breaks my heart a little for their families. If we go again, I think I'll take flowers.

Panning

For photography class we have specific homework to complete each week. This week we went to Jungle Jim's to get the shots we needed. I think Jenn got some better shots that she can post. Macy wasn't so sure about the rides at first and we (and I mean we because I had to go in after her) spent most of the time on the playground.

The assignment was panning. You need: a fast moving subject, shutter speed at 1/15, and great timing on the trigger. The end result is supposed to be the subject in focus and the rest of the picture showing the action.

Here are a few for the assignment:
