In the Land of Make Believe

Last week, Macy and I tried to create her dream neighborhood for the Little People.  She would have a farm and zoo on one side of the house and we added a carnival and ark on the other side for a little variety.   There is also a train to take you to each attraction.

There would be free pony rides and lots of animals to pet and feed.

But the best part is that we had President and Sister Summerhays over for dinner.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

I was weeding through my pictures and almost deleted this one. But I think this picture says it all about Macy at this stage. She is on the go and getting into as much trouble as she can as fast as she can.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

Rites of Passage

Please indulge my crazy first-time momness.

On Sunday, Macy turned 18-months-old and with this milestone comes an important rite of passage for the Latter-day Saint Toddler: Nursery! The first tiny step from the nest.

We made our way into the room and found the perfect toy ... which was promptly taken away by an older child. We quickly found another and a crisis was averted. As I turned to leave, her eyes welled with tears. Oh wait! Those were my eyes. She was just fine.

I went to Sunday School and sat with my ears perked up listening for her war cry, "My Mama". (She calls me Mama which I completely adore.) But luckily the call never came.

On my way to Relief Society, I was feeling practically naked. I stopped for a quick look in the peep hole. (They have an actual peep hole so you can check in on the kids without being spotted.) There were all the kids sitting down listening with Macy running in circles around them.

As Relief Society got underway, I found it was actually quite nice to listen to the lesson and when church was over I was not sweaty and exhausted. I went and picked up a very happy Macy and came to the conclusion that I am really going to like nursery. Oh, and I think Macy might too.

** Side note: I am fully aware that, because I wrote this post, next week will be a complete nightmare with wailing and gnashing of teeth.

** Another note: The picture really has nothing to do with the story unless you see it as her on Memorial day looking into a Crystal ball at the cemetary to see her near future in the nursery. I just think it's a cute picture.

Jam Packed June

We packed so much into June. We had a Summerhays week long Stay-cation. In one week, we went to the zoo, the Children's museum, boating and the park. We also had a waterslide day at the Oettli's, took family pictures, and Grammy and Grampy's farewell. Phew! We even survived Macy's first fat lip from a wild slide ride at the park.

Macy has loved every minute because it was all about cousins (we were lucky enough to see all our cousins from both sides of the family in one week), animals and water.

We were also so sad to say goodbye to Grammy and Grandpa. We can't wait to come and visit.

Happy Belated Fathers' Day

Macy and I are two of the luckiest girls around.  We both have Dads who are everything a Dad should be.  I love you Dad and I love you JD.  Thank you both for being such strong forces for good in our lives.  

For the Little Monet in Your Home

Macy has yet to paint with anything other than yogurt, but I saw the following idea on www.designmom.com and loved it so much that I thought I would pass it on.   

It is a little hard to tell in the picture, but each image is one page of the child's artwork.  It is such a modern and clean way to display the artwork of the little ones you love.

Now granted, the lady listed in the post recreates the artwork and goes through a whole process.  But her starting price is $1,200.  You could, however, easily recreate this with a little time, PowerPoint, a scanner (or digital camera) and the cost of printing at Costco.

I am also reading this cover to cover for the second time and still chuckling to myself as I read. I have also interrupted JD on several occasions with, "You gotta hear this..."

Now I know this sounds boring, but did you know that you can clean the toilet with Tang? Tang! And did you know that, according to Bryan Garner (grammar expert extraordinaire), it is perfectly acceptable to start sentences with and or but? But please don't start them with however. (Yes, this does mean that we were all lied to by teachers from elementary school through college. Vouchers aren't looking so bad now, are they?)
